4 Tips To Help You De-Winterize Your Boat

Getting your boat ready for spring is an exciting process, but if you’re not careful that excitement can turn bitter in a flash. Below are a few simple steps to keep your summer on the water as enjoyable as possible.

Step 1:

Start with the engine. If you haven’t already change the engine oil. Check on the drive oil as well just to be safe. You also may want to change your oil filter; while this is not a necessity, it is highly recommended to get the best performance and longest life from your boat.

Step 2:

The gas tank on your boat should have been left full as to keep all moisture out. Make sure you changed your fuel filter and the lines are in good shape. It’s not uncommon to find fuel filter lines fractured from a harsh winter.

Step 3:

Always go out of your way to keep the distributor in mint condition. Take off the cap and make sure nothing is corroded and that all connections are complete.

Step 4:

The battery on your boat is always worth double checking. If you have water in your battery, be sure it stays full of water. When a battery dries out, it’s time to buy a new one. Use a battery tester to make sure everything is in order.

Keep these tips handy, never rush your de-winterizing process and you’ll keep your boat in top shape for years to come.
